The Spirits of Agave
Experience Oaxaca’s Unique Fermented Agave Drinks, Their History, Myths, and Regeneration
A local organic market is our classroom as we taste and learn about the mysteries of maguey/agave not only through Mexican cultural history, but through unique flavours found in the fermented spirits of agave.
Through a flight or tasting of three distinct maguey/agave beverages, we endeavour to learn about the mysterious path of maguey, the Goddess Mayahuel, the moon, and pulque in Oaxaca. The Spirits of Agave session is a session curated solely by Oaxaca Profundo Sessions and our colleagues/companerxs.
Guests are challenged to consider their approach to the vast differences in taste, textures, and context that root Oaxacan and Western traditions and how all of this informs our relations to farming, elderhood, sacrifice, myth, and food.
Note: There is no mezcal served at this tasting. For that, join our friends at Expresiones del Mezcal!
When: 4pm-6pm, Every Thursday (or Upon Request)
Where: Oaxaca’s Centro Historico. A local market is our maguey classroom; it’s location will be sent out via email upon confirmation of your reservation.
