FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Reservations / Payment

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?

Tickets must be purchased prior to the tour. Our sessions are limited to 8 participants. Please click on “Book Now” in the session page that you’re interested in to reserve your spots.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

A deposit of 50% of the total cost is required to reserve your spot on our sessions. Deposits can be paid in cash in Oaxaca City or sent via Paypal to info@oaxsessions.com. Deposits are strictly non-refundable.

What currency do I pay in?

All costs are listed and must be paid in Mexican Pesos.

Are there a minimum number of guests for each session?

Yes, we require a minimum of 2 people for each session. If you are just one person, let us know your available dates and we will do our best to ensure you have a place on a session with us.

When is final payment due?

For each of our day sessions, final payment is due at the beginning of the session. For each group session, final payment is due 3 business days in advance.

Dietary Restrictions

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

Please be sure to let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, allergy, etc.) in advance. We can accomodate most issues.

What if I have an severe allergy?

Most issues with allergies are avoidable in Oaxaca, however please note there are nuts in some of the food offered. If you have a severe nut allergy, please consider that our chocolate sessions have nuts in them.

Trip Insurance / Medical Issues

Do I need travel insurance?

We highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance. Unforeseen circumstances of just getting to a session could cost you more than you were expecting. You can review a variety of travel insurance programs online.

Guests will be required to sign a liability waiver upon arrival at the beginning of a group session.

I have a chronic or potentially life-threatening medical ailment. Are your sessions for me?

Please inform us well in advance of any serious medical issues you might have. Our session leaders have limited medical training and are not responsible for your health. Please know your issues, limitations, and requirements and let us know if it is imperative.

Please note that any session that takes us outside of Oaxaca City will severely limit the accessibility to a hospital or medical practitioners. Please keep this in mind when reserving your spots.

Children

Are babies and young children welcome?

Yes, babies and children are welcome. However, we ask you to use your judgment to determine if the session is appropriate for them. Please take into consideration that our sessions can be over 4 hours long. They require walking over two kilometres at times and sitting or standing for most of it.

The streets and sidewalks of Oaxaca are uneven and demand close attention at all times. The tour is not baby stroller accessible. We recommend using a carrier.

Babies and small children who will not be joining the food tastings do not need to pay. If your child is 10 years old and will be participating fully in the session, then full payment will need to be paid.

Session Day Miscelanea

– If you have already paid your deposit, please ensure to bring the remainder of payment.

– Please ensure to bring water, as it is important to stay hydrated in between tastings.

– We will taste a large amount of food and drink, but feel free to bring any extra cash if you’d like to make purchases along the way.

– There will public or private washrooms at most stops. Public washrooms often incur a small fee ($5pesos)

– We eat and drink a great deal on our sessions, but it is suggested that guests have something light to eat before the session begins.
